I think I’ve brought this up several times- earlier this year, I accidentally deleted every website that I have on my webhosting. I’m actually working on getting them up and running even better than before. I have so many ideas and as soon as I get really focused on one, I get a new idea for one of the others. Maybe I need to make a list.
Anyway, I’ve been looking through all of my old external hard drives to see what sorts of things I’ve had up, or thought about putting up in various places and I found hundreds of real blog posts from back in the day. Are any of these things worth reposting? Probably not…
Here’s something I found and promptly closed and re-forgot about:
I came up with this idea that I was going to make some bath bombs and bath salts and all this spa day type stuff. Luxury!
It turns out- I don't know how weird this is- I don't really like baths.
I get all kinds of ideas in the shower. I solve problems in the shower. I come up with arguments that I'll never have in the shower. But in the bathtub- it's a whole different thought process.
I start thinking about how much room I'm taking up in the tub. About how I should be doing something else. It's quiet. I can hear the neighbors opening their cupboards or fighting or hanging up pictures. One of them just ordered a pizza? This is supposed to be relaxing. But it's boring. Those fizzy bath bombs? 12 seconds of science excitement, tops. Am I going to be dyed blue now? What else can I do in here? I can try to catch that one speck of something that's floating near the drain. it keeps getting away. Ok, there we go. How did a tiny bit of cardboard get in my tub? Did I rinse off all the cleaner when I scrubbed the tub right before this? Am I laying in chemicals? Can scrubbing bubbles give me a uti?
Once you start shaving your legs, the tub can no longer be a relaxing place, you're now in hair + scrubbing bubbles + baking soda, citric acid & blue + shaving cream soup.
So I re-forget about this post and go about my life for about a week, and one evening at about 6:07 pm, I turn off the shower and the knob just SNAPS. The water won’t shut off. And my apartment shower is weird in a way that when you first turn it on it is hot and you have to keep turning it to get to cold. (years ago my Mom told me how you could fix that, and I did for about a day, but then, I was used to the boiling hot being first that I switched it back)
Hot, Hot, boiling hot water is running from the tub spout. I get my screwdriver and get the knob thing off and try to use some real clampy pliers to turn it off but it’s not working. I’m panicked, the bathroom is all steamy, the water is running. I have to call maintenance. But the apartment office closes at 6pm and it’s now 6:13!
I called the after hours service and it took an hour to get a guy to get here. It took 3 minutes for him to turn it off. Then he left for 20 minutes to find a new knob thing.
He comes back with a different handle, takes quite a while getting it on, and then goes, “it’s a… different handle” and leaves.
Great! that nightmare is over. Or is it?
I go in to check after he leaves, and instead of a knob it’s a handle, and you’d expect it to be facing down in the off position. But it was pointing to 12 o’clock. Let’s see how this new handle works. is it going to be hot first and then cold? This fella had made it to where 12 o’clock was off, right? If you turned it to the left it was cold. To get to hot, you’d have to turn it to the right of the off position. There was no in between.
With my life and pet situation, I needed to be here when maintenance was here, and it was going to be 6 days until my next day off. So the next day I had to take a bath, and I remembered that post I read and wondered if I’d jinxed myself. Hahaha.
Turns out I still hate baths, so the next days after that I did a fun switch back and forth shower of terror.
On my next day off, I had THE SAME MAINTENANCE MAN show up, and I was like “oh nooooo” but his mistake was probably weighing on his mind, he might have looked at a youtube video on how to fix it, and he fixed it correctly in about 5 minutes.
